Redland Psychology Services
About Me
I am a Clinical Psychologist, with over 20 years’ experience assessing and treating a range of developmental, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. Having studied Psychology at the University of Liverpool in the late 1990s as a mature student, I went on to work with people with neurological and physical health conditions for several years before qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2007 at the University of Manchester. As a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, I have worked in both the NHS and private sector between Bristol and Devon with teenagers, adults and older adults experiencing a range of difficulties from physical to mental health. I have been specialising in focusing on the assessment of, and therapy for, trauma and complex trauma since 2009.
My Practice
I began my private Clinical Psychology practice in Devon in 2009, whilst still working as a Clinical Psychologist in an NHS service. Since September 2019, I have been full-time in private practice, delivering evidence-based psychological therapy to adolescents and adults of all ages from 16 to over 80+, working with them to resolve mental health conditions, often caused by trauma and adverse life events.
My own recovery from trauma
As well as being a Clinical Psychologist, I am a mum, a partner and a keen runner. I am also a daughter of a military veteran. As part of my own recovery from trauma, my training, and ongoing development I have attended therapy at various times myself. I have personally found a combination of Compassion focused therapy and EMDR especially powerful in helping the people I work with to overcome their trauma history, and am highly committed to, and passionate about, bringing these tremendously healing therapies to others who have experienced adverse life events.
Qualifications and Experience
A Clinical Psychologist is a mental health professional who has doctoral level training in working with people from children up to older adults. The profession is a combination of an art and a science. We use a variety of recognised assessment tools and therapeutic approaches validated by research. As a Clinical Psychologist, I tailor support I offer based on my client’s needs and preferences and my own experience gained over years of listening and working with people.
After qualifying, I worked with both adults and children within the NHS in Devon, Bristol, and Somerset between 2007 and 2019. During my career I have worked as an Expert Witness, delivered training to nurses, doctors and trainee psychologists, and published research.
